Awooooo Werewolves of London

Warren Zevon (1947-2003) was a rock and roll great who often gets
either lost in the mix or treated like a one hit wonder for his song
Werewolves of London. This is a great song with such classic lines as:

I saw a werewolf with a
Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the
streets of Soho in the rain
He was looking for a place
called Lee Ho Fook’s
Going to get himself a
big dish of beef chow mein

But there are many other songs of Zevon’s which you may not have heard
which you should check out. Before Warren Zevon passed away from inoperable lung cancer in 2003, he did a performance on the David
Letterman Show of his song Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner.

Paul Shaffer is really getting into this song. I find this performance to be quite touching. Another song that features Zevon along with the Letterman band is Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song). This song was actually co-written by Mitch Albom. If you listen closely, it is actually Letterman who yells “Hit Somebody!” on this song. How awesome is that? Though I couldn’t include all of my favorite Zevon songs, other songs to check out include:

Tenderness on the Block
By Warren Zevon and Jackson Browne

Poor Poor Pitiful Me

Excitable Boy

Lawyers,Guns And Money

Johnny Strikes Up the Band

Warren Zevon led the band on Letterman for several weeks while Paul Schaffer was off working on “Blues Brothers 2000”
