June 2nd, the Grateful Dead family lost yet another member- Vince Welnick [via SFGate]. Add Vince Welnick to the list of deceased Grateful Dead Keyboard players including Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Keith Godchaux, and Brent Mydland. There is now one keyboard player from the Grateful Dead still living- Tom Constanten (member of the Grateful Dead 1968-1970) (or two if you consider Bruce Hornsby who played 100+ shows on keyboard with the Grateful Dead). In memory of Vince Welnick, I wanted to share this version of the Star Spangled Banner performed by Vince Welnick, Jerry Garcia, and Bob Weir at Candlestick Park, San Francisco on April 12th, 1993. Enjoy it and be moved. Rest in peace, Vince!
